COPPERAS COVE . . .

Copperas Cove, located in Coryell County, lies about
210 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and 110
miles southwest of Dallas. The climate is temperate,
with temperatures ranging from an average minimum of
33°F in January to an average maximum of 97° in
July. The average annual rainfall is thirty-two
inches. The population in 2000 was 29,592. |

Fort Hood
is the largest active duty
armored post in the United
States, and is the only post
in the United States that is
capable of supporting two
full armored divisions. In
addition to the 1st Cavalry
Division and the 4th
Infantry Division, Fort Hood
is also home for the
Headquarters Command III
Corps, 3d Personnel Group,
3d Signal Brigade, 13th
Corps Support Command (COSCOM),
13th Finance Group, 89th
Military Police Brigade,
504th Military Intelligence
Brigade, the 21st Cavalry
Brigade (Air Combat), the
Dental Activity (DENTAC),
the Medical Support Activity
(MEDDAC), Army Operational

HARKER HEIGHTS . . .
|
Harker Heights is a fairly young city,
having been incorporated in
1960. The city has no major
industry, which is why most
of its residents work in
Killeen, Fort Hood, or other
areas of Bell County. Harker
Heights has four recreation
areas as well as the Killeen
Municipal Golf Course and
Stillhouse Hollow Lake. On
average, the warmest month
is July, the coolest is
January and the maximum
average precipitation occurs
in May. The population as of
2000 was 17,308. |

KILLEEN . . .
|
Killeen,
located in the western
portion of Bell County, is
about 40 miles north of
Austin on U.S. Highway 190.
Until Camp Hood (recommissioned
as Fort Hood in 1950) was
created as a military
training base in the 1940's,
Killeen was a small farm
trade center. The population
of 1,300 in 1949 reached
86,911 in 2000. Like it's
neighbors, Killeen also has
a temperate climate, and an
average annual rainfall of
thirty-six inches. |

LAMPASAS . . .
|
Lampasas
covers an
area of 714 square miles near the center
of Texas. In 1990 the county population
was 13,521, with almost one half (6,382)
located in Lampasas. The nearby lakes
and reservoirs, municipal parks, stock
shows and historical festivals continue
to be a source of attraction to the
area. |
